We’ve arrived at Mother’s Day. That one day society forces us to shower our moms with presents from Hallmark and Taco Bell to truly give them the recognition they deserve. Out of original gift ideas for your beloved mother? We have all the best sources right here in Cresskill.

  • Kings Supermarket Cards

There’s nothing like last minute shopping to show your mom you love her. Kings has everything (spoiler alert: that’s why they call it Kings), and lucky for you, it’s right in the center of town. You could go with the homemade fruit tarts or freshly fried chicken fingers, but the real jackpot are their $3 cards. Senior Sam Higgins often chooses this option when selecting the perfect gift because when she forgets Mother’s Day, she can “just go there and get a gift card under three minutes, and no one will ever know.” Well, until now.

  • Coupon to Cool Hot Yoga

This is something your mom will really love. And I know what you’re all thinking — no this isn’t a slick way of telling your mom to dump the potato chips and get in shape. Cool Hot Yoga is a real place right in between the Dunkin Donuts (with all the sugar) and CVS Pharmacy (with all the pills). With this coupon, your mom can enjoy a single class with a bunch of other moms doing downward dog, cat-cow, pigeon — you know, the works. They may or may not take this time to talk about you, but you know, that’s not important.

  • Keremo Cakes

Okay, okay, okay, this is actually pretty legitimate. Did you know that, even though Keremo Cakes is squeezed between two brick buildings and is hardly ever entered, the owners actually won Cake Wars ages ago? Yeah, well, tell your mom that when you give her the cake so she’ll really recognize the effort you put into walking the five minutes to town and buying a slice of chocolate cake. The important part — and pay close attention to this — is to make sure the cake is actually in the box when you give it to her. No lie, I’ve had experiences when I’ve tried to give a cake to someone but never actually did the deed because it fell into my mouth on the way there.

  • A candle from Hudson Pharmacy

Moms love all things that smell good — that’s why they make you take a shower every night. That corner pharmacy across from Kings has all kinds of scented candles, ranging from Strawberry Blood, Burnt Pizza, Low Fat Lo-Mein, and their specialty, Green Eggs and Ham. The wide array of smells can really spice up your otherwise bland home. And, for limited time only, you can even customize the exterior candle decorations. So if you want to showcase your most recent school picture or the number of a psychologist, this is the right gift for her.

  • A Book from the Library

Most people like this option because you won’t have to spend a penny. Besides, what has your mom ever given you besides food, a roof over your head, clothes, toys, and, well, life? Nonetheless, a book from the library is a great present; according to senior Pooja Balar, “moms [spend] so much money on the library cards we had as kids, so the least we can do is put it to some good use and give her a book for Mother’s Day.” A wise man once said that the things we buy are not as grand as the things we rent. I don’t remember who said that, but it’s beside the point. It’s up to you as to what book you’ll check out. You’ll have to dig deep in your mind and remember something your mom likes talking about other than what’s for dinner tonight.
