Cresskill Football showed up and showed out during their home opener against the Secaucus Patriots on Friday night. It was a special senior night for the Cougars who rolled their divisional opponent to a 41-6 victory in their second game of the season.

The Patriots played their first game of the season on Friday after their contest against North Arlington was canceled last week due to COVID complications. Secaucus came out firing with a touchdown on their opening drive. Cresskill responded with a 5-yard touchdown run to take a 7-6 lead. From that point onwards, the Cougars didn’t look back, blocking a punt for a touchdown midway through the game, and closing out the night with 5 straight touchdowns.

The offense was led by seniors Kyle Henderson and Jeremy Connelly with a ferocious running game. Henderson ran for 112 yards and 3 touchdowns, while Connelly went for 158 and a 42-yard score. The scoring was finished off by a touchdown run in the 4th quarter by junior Sidney Hamburger. The defensive side of the ball was led by linebackers Dan Ferrara and Jerry Makris who had 10 and 11 tackles respectively with Ferrara adding a sack to his impressive performance.

Looking ahead, Cresskill has a big game next Friday against the division leader Becton Wildcats. With a win, the Cougars could possibly catapult themselves back into the league championship conversation and give them a chance to win the title in back to back years.
