On Saturday Cresskill upset the unbeaten Waldwick 25-13 on their home turf at Cresskill High School. Despite having their game scheduled three days before it happened, the squad dominated the Warriors all afternoon. They improved their record to 2-2 and 10-1 at home over the past three seasons with the victory.

The Cougars were originally scheduled to play New Milford on Saturday but that was changed due to a COVID-19 outbreak. Fortunately, Waldwick was in search of a game as well with only two days of practice, both teams battled it out on Saturday afternoon with no fear.

Cresskill came out blazing with a 50-yard pass to Senior Jon DiTore on the first play of the game to bring them inside the five-yard line. Two plays later, running back Jeremy Connelly rolled into the end zone to make the score 6-0. Waldwick rebounded with a score of their own on the very next drive when Senior Shawn Grigsby scored from three yards out to take the lead 7-6. The Cougars responded with a 70-yard drive capped with a touchdown throw to tight end Kiel McGee. The Warriors failed to match the score before the end of the first half and Cresskill went into halftime with a 12-7 lead.

The defense starred in the big game for the Cougars who limited the high-powered Waldwick offense to their lowest point total all season. Seniors Luis Abreu and Anthony Coleman stuffed the middle of the defense and allowed only 73 yards of total offense for the Warriors. Cresskill also ran an effective offense by scoring four times throughout the game. Senior Jeremy Connelly scored two rushing touchdowns while quarterback Kyle Henderson added one 43-yarder on the ground and another 13-yard score through the air to McGee.

Cresskill plays next Friday at 7 pm on their home field against a 2-4 Wood-Ridge team. The Cougars look to improve to 3-2 on the season with a victory.
