Women I Admire: Women’s History Month

As Women’s History month is still going on, I’d like to put a spotlight on women-played roles in shows/movies. It is important to put a spotlight on these amazing, talented actresses because they’re able to always execute a fantastic performance.

1. All the women in Kill Bill

Quentin Tarantino’s casting call this movie was literally just “Baddest Women Alive Only.” The high angled shot of a badass female protagonist played by Uma Therman, stood on a balcony overlooking a whole room of men she just massacred all by herself. Usually in movies, viewers hate the antagonist because they just get in each other’s way. However, in this movie, it is impossible to not gape at Gogo Yubari and O-Ren Iishi’s performance, as all they do is just slay, Both figuratively and literally. Each character takes spotlight in their own way. The film is spectacular in every way possible, from the shift and mix of different women from different cultures, and the general focus on women.

2. Mulan

How could anyone not mention Mulan as one of the most badass women of all time? You can’t. Imagine having so much fortitude that you commit treason by disguising yourself as a man to take over your old dad’s place in the army because you don’t want him to get hurt. Imagine defeating the huge Han army AND defeating Shan Yu himself AND saving the emperor’s life and the nation.. She is truly the baddest of the baddest. Not to mention, she saved THE General Li Shang all by herself– I mean, I could just go on and on.

3. Beth, Ruby, and Annie

Honestly, I don’t even know how they’re getting away with constant money laundering and washing, but I’m not complaining! They’re so incredibly strong in whatever they do, and even though they commit crimes, they do it in the most baddie ways possible. I love how they are able to be their own selves and let no one take control of what they do. Their loyalty and friendship always makes the viewers feel for them and this is why Beth, Ruby, and Annie are all baddies.

4. Love Quinn from “You”

On the surface, she may seem like the typical “girl next door” type, but as the show progresses, we see that there’s so much more to her. She’s intelligent, independent, and fiercely loyal to those she cares about. She’s not afraid to speak her mind and stand up for what she believes in, even if it means going against societal norms. Even though she’s absolutely crazy and needs help desperately, that’s besides the point.. The point is that the show you will never be the same without her and she needs to come back on right now.

5. Dong-Eun from “The Glory”

Okay, for someone to be bullied their entire life in one of the most brutal ways possible by their own classmates, not having

anything or anyone on your side– not even your own parents, and not being able to receive justice solely because the bullies come from money and power and STILL managing to get revenge on every one of your bullies by yourself is beyond me. I think it is so admirable that she worked her way up from nothing, gambled her life on this revenge and still succeeded. She is truly a queen for being able to handle and go through everything she went through all by herself. She is independent and courageous which is why I think she is someone to look up to. She spent the entirety of her life planning every single situation bound to happen, and she was able to get her way in the end, which was truly deserved.
