On Saturday, November 8, the Cresskill Nature Environmental Club had a successful workday at the Closter Nature Center. Volunteers gathered starting at 12:00 PM, right after their SATs, but were free to arrive at any time.
The main focus of the workday was a new reforestation project, where club members helped build wire fencing to protect young trees and animals around the area. While the work was considered “light,” it still required teamwork, having a few people work in the cabin, cutting up wired fences, while a few others carried the fence outdoors. Club members came prepared with working gloves, ample clothing, water, and snacks, making sure they didn’t forget the bug spray and sunscreen as well.
The workday wasn’t just about building fences; it was a chance to connect with nature and see how even small efforts can help the environment. Club members could see the impact of their work right away, knowing that the fencing will help protect the new plants and animals for years to come.
The Nature Environmental Club thanked everyone who came out to help. The event showed how much can be done when people work together, and take care of local nature centers. It was a fun productive day, and the club hopes to host more events like this to encourage students to get involved in protecting the environment.
