Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? Well, Spongebob and Burger King recently came out with a limited edition collaboration meal. As a long time Spongebob fan, when I heard this news I was already in Bikini Bottom… or at least the Burger King drive thru. This collab highlights Spongebob, Patrick, Mr. Krabs, and even Spongebob’s infamous pineapple house. My expectations were high, and while the idea is nostalgic and enticing, the execution fell short of my hopes.
First, we have the signature Krabby Patty. The Krabby Patty is an iconic part of the show. Unfortunately, this was not the Krabby Patty we all imagined growing up, it lacked flavor, and was just a classic whopper repackaged in a yellow square bun. Whoppers are delicious, but it definitely didn’t taste like a burger Spongebob would grill. This gets a 6/10 from me, it was good overall, but I think that they could’ve added something special to make it more unique and on theme.
Next, I tried Mr. Krab’s Cheesy Bacon Tots. This was easily the worst part of the meal, the fact that it was barely warm definitely didn’t help. I thought it was lacking in flavor, and the cheese felt fake and artificial. If there is one thing me and Mr. Krabs have in common, it’s that we both love money, and he definitely took mine because this wasn’t worth a single dollar. Sadly, this gets a 2/10.
Did somebody say ice cream? The meal also comes with Patrick’s Starberry shortcake pie, which was definitely a highlight of the experience. It tasted like a strawberry shortcake ice cream bar you would get as a child, in pie form, of course. Although the taste was very artificial, this dessert ties to the nostalgic feeling of being a kid again. I thought the presentation was nice and the flavors went well together. I would rate this a 7.5/10.
Last, I got the Pirates Frozen Pineapple Float. This was the best thing I got out of this meal and finally had the nostalgic taste I was waiting for. It was creamy, refreshing, and tropical, almost like a pina colada. I would happily give this an 8.5/10. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to save the overall score. I can say the food was put together thoughtfully, but in the end, I wouldn’t recommend this meal, it’s fun to try once, but I would save my $14.99. This gets a 6/10 from me.
