As if the first blizzard wasn’t enough, February 23, 2026, brought another, arguably worse winter storm, which slammed into New Jersey, bringing heavy snowfall and strong winds that shut down many schools and roads, forcing emergency warnings all across the state. Many towns were buried under more than a foot of snow, with some towns in North Jersey reporting totals close to 30 inches!
In Bergen County, some of the highest snowfall amounts were recorded in towns like Lyndhurst with 30.7 inches, Carlstadt with 30.2 inches, and Leonia with 29.7 inches. Cresskill received 19.5 inches of snow, leaving streets covered and making travel difficult throughout the next couple of days.
Cresskill Middle / High School was closed for snow days on both Monday, February 23rd, and Tuesday, February 24th. It also snowed on the morning of February 25th, but the school did not have a delayed opening, even with roads not being cleared.
The blizzard didn’t just affect roads, as it also left residents struggling to dig out from massive amounts of snow. Many Cresskill residents spent hours outside clearing driveways and sidewalks in the freezing cold. Ari Keren, when asked about the recent snowstorms, said, “Clearing my driveway was a really tough task. I couldn’t feel my arms or legs.” Derek Hroncic, when asked the same question, stated, “It took so long clearing my driveway, it felt like forever.”
The storm not only brought heavy snow but also strong winds, hence creating a blizzard, reducing visibility, and making driving dangerous. Officials issued travel bans and urged residents to stay indoors as plows worked to clear roads.
Overall, this February’s blizzard will likely be remembered as one of the most impactful and significant snowstorms of the season, as this is the most snow Cresskill and Bergen County have experienced in years.
