Ms. Milewska is a Cresskill High School biology teacher who really loves learning and helping students understand science. Before becoming a teacher, she actually planned to go to medical school. But after thinking it over, she realized she wanted to work with students instead. She said “I loved school, I loved learning,” and that love for school is part of why she decided to become a teacher. In college, she majored in Biology, with education as her minor; chosen because she already knew she wanted to teach at the high school level.
Even though she once thought about being a doctor, Ms. Milewska ultimately chose teaching since she enjoyed sharing knowledge and helping students grow. Her dad also inspired her in some ways, sharing that he always encouraged her to follow what she loved and supported her when she decided to leave medical school to teach.
As a teacher, Ms. Milewska works hard to make her classes interesting. Her favorite class to teach is anatomy, and she likes showing students how the human body works. She spends time preparing lessons, setting up experiments, and helping students understand the material. She said a typical day starts at 5:45 a.m. with coffee and breakfast, then a 27 minute drive to school with teaching and working with students all day.
Ms. Milewska also tries to make science fun and relatable. She uses real-life examples, experiments, and sometimes stories about nature to help students understand. Even though she once could have gone a different career route, she doesn’t seem to regret becoming a teacher.
Overall, Ms. Milewska is a teacher who truly cares about her students and loves her job. She left a possible career in medicine because she wanted to make a difference in students’ lives, and now she does exactly that, spending every day helping students learn and enjoy biology.
