December marks the start of the winter and with that comes the winter sports’ seasons. Cresskill’s next biggest sport is basketball. What’s in store for the teams in the upcoming season?

Boys Basketball

The 2016-2017 varsity boys’ basketball team is coached by Mr. Doto. He expects that the boys will do even better this season than they did last year. The team has matured a lot over the past couple of years and has developed into a skilled group. The team only lost two seniors from last season to this season, so the boys already have a sound team dynamic. The positions are already established and the boys are on their way. Seniors Jack Maltby, Darren Horowitz, Jagger Kushner, and Danny Park are expected to step up as the leaders of the team and guide the rest of the boys to victory. In addition to these players, juniors Luka Radovich, Harrison Lucibello, and Wellington Ventura are expected to do great things this season, along with some new, younger players. Coach Doto is confident that the team has a shot at winning the holiday tournament and the sectional title and hopes to be competitive in the county tournament. The boys have been working hard and look forward to the upcoming season.

Girls Basketball

The varsity girls’ basketball team will be coached by Mr. McCourt in the 2016-2017 season. Great things are expected of the whole team and the girls aspire to go even further this year. From the previous season to this one, the girls only lost one senior, so there are many returning and experienced players. With the returning players, the team has also gained new players, like new student Lamiyah Rajai, who will play her first season with Cresskill this year. Senior Erin McQuillen is a huge prospect for the team, as she scored her 1,000th point during her junior year. She and seniors Emily Wells and Sydnie Martin, as well as junior Julia Maltby, will work towards a winning season this year. The girls will play teams like Saddle Brook, Hawthorne Christian, and Palisades Park, all of which Cresskill has done well against in past seasons. The girls have been working together and improving their tactics to make the upcoming season remarkable.
