On Sunday, April 19th, the Nature Environmental Club met and worked for just the 3rd time this year. Due to the snow and long-lasting cold, they were unable to really work and do what they set out to do. President Gavin Kim led a few club-members in fighting the rain and reinforcing the roots of small, recently-planted trees.
Then, on Sunday the 26th, the group met again, this time to continue on the plan of replanting trees. It rained the day before, so the ground was really muddy, but the team got a lot of work in. Gavin was extremely proud of his club and their desire to work, saying, “I am extremely grateful for having such enthusiastic workers who care as much as I do about the environment.” They brought pots to different sites where more trees would be planted.
While the main goal is bringing more trees to combat the death of so many from invasive beetles and the over-population of deers in New Jersey, it’s also about teaching underclassmen and younger students what real environmental stewardship looks like. The next workday will be soon, and other members like Social Media Manager Hugo Tsurushima and Senior Jay Han have shown interest in it. Hopefully more progress will be made and the crew can go back to grinding and working hard.
