On March 21st, 2019 Cresskill was introduced to its newest tradition: a March Madness dodgeball tournament. Last year’s tournament was a huge success, and gave a competitive twist to an average Cresskill fundraiser.  The tournament consists of participants from any high school grade; each team must consist of at least one girl, one boy and a staff member. Around fifteen teams are expected to participate in this year’s tournament.

The stakes are set high after last year’s roaring success. Mrs. Durakis, a 2020 class advisor mentioned in an interview how the “Participation from the student body is the reason why this fundraiser is so successful”. 

Whether you’re coming to play or coming to watch, the fundraiser has enough fun events for everyone to enjoy. A fun photo booth, 50-50, cotton candy machine, a donation table for the Ricky Lee memorial scholarship, and the iconic Mr. McCourt refereeing. 

As a new faculty member last year, the ninth grade English teacher Ms.Taliento only knew the freshman class. After participating in the tournament, Ms. Taliento was introduced to many more CHS students she would have never had the chance to meet before.

“It was nice to have a little friendly rivalry in the hallway,” Ms. Taliento mentioned in an interview.

Along with the excitement of competing to win, this tournament gives a platform for students and teachers to work together. Ms.Taliento mentioned, “Students get to see a different side of their teachers, when they put their walls down and get to be crazy together.”
