A Summer Like No Other
More stories from Angelina Doto
How fun was your summer 2020? I bet it was not very fun. Summer 2020 was taken away from everyone due to the coronavirus pandemic. Kids couldn’t go out with their friends and could not go to places like the beach, amusement parks etc. Coronavirus cases have gone down and there is now a vaccine but precautions still need to be taken. Now the question is, with this summer approaching, the question is will this summer have some normalcy or will it be more like last summer?
Now the answer to this question depends on what you view “normal” as. In the article, Experts Predict What Summer 2021 Will Be Like with the Covid19 Pandemic expert David Arnoff says “These vaccines are absolutely our way out of this pandemic.” CHS student Alyssa Shick agrees with Arnoff as she saids, “I do believe that vaccinations are the best way to end the pandemic as it will protect those more susceptible to death from the virus.” As people continue to get vaccinated we are on track to have more normalcy than last summer where people were rarely allowed to leave their homes. With the limit of 200 people at outdoor gatherings, people can have bbq and pool parties without breaking any laws. Also, beaches will be opening this summer which is bringing back a huge part in having a fun summer. Some people really enjoy the beach in the summer like Alyssa. She thinks that “beaches opening up will make summer feel more normal, especially the boardwalks.”
As hospitalizations and deaths drop and as vaccine numbers rise things are really looking up. In some places like Florida, and other states in the middle of the country have lifted their mask requirements and public places that require a lot of people, like clubs have reopened to full capacity. In the article, When Will Life Return to Normal? Experts say that this fall is supposed to be the first season of real normalcy but this summer is getting us on track for that. Another sophomore from CHS, Talen Zitomer also thinks that “this fall has the best chance of having some normalcy.”
Now things obviously aren’t going to be the same as summers before Corona but it will be more normal than summer 2020. We have already taken a step in the right direction with the outdoor mask mandate being lifted for people who have the vaccine. More rules are going to be lifted as the season goes on, hopefully bringing us to full normalcy. Going from barely being able to leave the house to public places being open and a vaccine being available is huge progress for the country.
