First Date Do’s and Don’ts

First Date Do's and Don'ts

As Valentine’s Day arrives, there are probably a lot of new couples. However, they might be conflicted when it comes to choosing what to do for their first date. If you are one of those couples, here is a list of do’s and don’ts for your first date to guide you.

DON’TS

  • Going to the movies

This has got to be the worst date idea one could ever think of. If your significant other suggests going to the movies for your first date, decline, decline, decline. The reason why this is a terrible idea is because it’s going to be and stay awkward the entire time. It’s okay to be a little awkward at first–it’s natural. However, the point of a date is to come out of that feeling by connecting. Going to the movies does everything but help you connect with your partner because you cannot talk to each other, therefore you cannot get to know each other better. You will most definitely both sit in silence, unable to enjoy the movie because of the awkward atmosphere. This date is more of a third date, after getting to know each other more, not first.

  • Museum/Art Gallery Date

There is no doubt that this is a great date– only if it is not your first. Please do not go on this date if you do not know your significant other as well yet, because you will be just walking around, past art in silence, unable to enjoy anything. One will be following the other in total awkwardness and silence. You may talk about the art here and there, but a full on conversation in a museum/art gallery is just unrealistic. However, if you really want to go to a museum for your first date, grab a small drink beforehand from somewhere that is close to the museum, then walk to the museum with them while drinking your coffee. This way, the atmosphere will most definitely loosen up, and you will get a smooth conversation going.

  • Sit down dinner at a nice restaurant

Some people find this one very controversial. Some say that it is a very good date because it is a good time to connect with each other, while some say it’s too mature and awkward for a teenager. A sit-down dinner for a first date might not be the best choice for teenagers because of several reasons. Firstly, teenagers tend to be more nervous and anxious in formal settings, and a sit-down dinner might heighten these feelings. Secondly, teenagers are often more comfortable in more relaxed, informal settings where they can move around and interact with others more easily. A sit-down dinner might also feel too grown-up or adult-like, which can make some teenagers feel out of place. Lastly, the cost of a sit-down dinner might be prohibitive for some teenagers or their parents, which can create stress or embarrassment. For these reasons, a more casual, low-key activity like grabbing a quick bite to eat might be a better option for a first date.

DO’s

  • Ice skating

Going ice skating for a first date with your crush is the ultimate teenage move. It’s like, hello, you get to show off your skills (or lack thereof) while getting physical on the ice and hopefully not making a fool of yourself in front of your date. Plus, nothing breaks the ice like a near-fall-turned-miraculous-recovery. And the best part is, if things get awkward, you can blame it on the slippery surface. Basically, ice skating is a recipe for a hilarious and memorable first date. And, to be real, who wouldn’t want to relive those awkward teen moments through laughter years later? Not to mention, it’s a nice, inexpensive, and easily accessible activity for teenagers –So grab your skates and get ready for a thrilling and hopefully not too embarrassing time.

  • Amusement Parks

An amusement park for a first date might be a great choice for teenagers because it offers a fun and exciting way to get to know each other. With so many rides and attractions, there’s plenty of opportunities for laughter, screams, and making memories. The adrenaline rush from riding roller coasters can also help to break the ice and create a bonding experience. Additionally, the variety of activities available at an amusement park, such as games and shows, means there’s always something to do if the conversation stalls. And who doesn’t love munching on cotton candy and churros while taking a break from the rides? Overall, an amusement park first date is a perfect opportunity for teens to let loose, have fun, and get to know each other in a lively and playful setting.

  • Arcade

An arcade for a first date might be a great choice for teenagers because it offers a fun and low-pressure environment to get to know each other. With a wide range of games, from classic arcade games to modern video games, there is something for everyone. The competitive aspect of playing games together can also create a fun and lighthearted dynamic, and the excitement of playing for high scores can bring out a playful side for both people. Plus, the casual and relaxed atmosphere of an arcade allows for a more laid-back and stress-free first date experience, which can be especially important for teenagers who may feel nervous or intimidated by more formal settings. There are also 2 types of people at the arcade; those who are good at the games and those who are bad. Chances are, you might be good but your partner might be bad, or vice-versa. If this is the case, it could be the perfect time to show off to your sweetheart, and impress them.
