And so, the nine week saga that was the 28th season of the Bachelor has come to an end. This season was unique in so many ways in that it had the most women to start any season, traveled to various locations, and each contestant had complicated backstories. It only made perfect sense for a unique season to end in a way that no other Bachelor season has.
Joey’s family meets the two final contestants: Kelsey A and Daisy. They offer advice to Joey on who they think is best and ultimately advise him to pick Daisy. Throughout the “one on one’s” in the episode it is clear that Joey has a stronger and more significant connection with Kelsey and even Daisy notices. As tensions heighten and the audience wonders who Joey will propose to, Daisy sits and ponders with the reality that she may not get chosen.
When the final scene occurs, Joey is on the beautiful beach in Tulum and Daisy is reminiscing on the experiences they have shared together. To everyone’s surprise, she withdraws from the happy times and confesses she knows Joey won’t pick her. With the line “The thing is, you’re not going to choose me.” Bachelor lovers everywhere gasped.
This was a very unique final scene between Daisy and Joey and perfectly encapsulates their relationship. It showed Daisy in a powerful light to reject herself before Joey could (if he was even able to do so). This not only makes Daisy a loveable contestant but also demonstrates a change in culture since it was the woman that left, rather than the man letting the woman down to go into the car crying on her way home in usual Bachelor fashion. This season’s ending makes it stand out in other recent bachelor seasons making Joey’s season all the more loveable amongst Bachelor Nation.
As far as Kelsey and Joey go, they’re a great couple. But with bachelor history, it only leaves us wondering what the couple has in store for the future. Whether they will stay together forever or divorce in a few years, only time will tell.
