The Predictions
The VMAs have been the talk of the town for some time now. Social media has been flooded with videos of the performances, pictures from the red carpet, and of course, pictures of the award winners. When asked “Who do you think will win best new artist?”, CHS student, Sage Lee responded, “I really hope Gracie Abrams wins, she’s like my favorite” Another student, Hila Mor said, “Gracie Abrams better win” Gracie Abrams is obviously a popular choice, but Tamar Greenberg responded, “I think Chappell Roan should win”. When asked “Who do you think will win the song of the summer award?”, one student, Kaya Amin replied, “Birds of a Feather I love that song” while another student, Semin Chun said, “Please, please, please. Sabrina Carpenter carried summer 2024”.
The Results
Now that we’ve heard what the students of CHS think, it’s time to reveal the actual winners. For the award of Best New Artist, rising star Chappell Roan won! I think Chappell Roan is a talented artist, but I agree with many that Gracie Abrams should’ve won. Hopefully, she’ll be nominated for a Grammy. For the Song of the Summer award, Fortnight by Taylor Swift (ft. Post Malone) won. Taylor Swift took home the most number of VMAs that night… Why does she keep winning? When asked, “Since Taylor Swift is continuously winning VMA awards, do you think they are rigged?”. Student Anna Park answered, “Yes, 100%, It’s not a coincidence that she keeps winning and there are so many lost opportunities for other artists who haven’t won.” Anna certainly brings up a good point. For example, Fortnight’s vibes do not give off that summertime feeling. It comes as a shock to me that Espresso by Sabrina Carpenter wasn’t even nominated! CHS student Isabella Bross states, “I like Taylor Swift but I think they are rigged because there is no way that she keeps winning so much year after year.” Even as a self-proclaimed “swiftie”, Isabella believes it is unfair that she keeps winning. Taylor Swift’s winning streak is a debatable topic among many. Will Taylor be at the top forever?
