As the cold settles in and the days become shorter, the time for snow, hot cocoa, and fuzzy clothing has arrived! CHS has also eagerly begun the cycle of festivities, including the Skiing and Snowboarding club, which lets students sign up to go to Mountain Creek and race down snowy mountains. The club is meant for students who can already ski or snowboard, so the paths are never boring and the hours fly by. When 9th grader Ellie Kim is interviewed, as she was one of the members in the club last year, she says, “I went to that club’s trip last year, and it was so funny. I got to go with a few friends and we had fun all night.” I also went to one of the club’s trips to Mountain Creek last year, and I’ll never forget it. Not only were the paths very smooth and filled with challenging hills, but the bus rides were funny too, especially with friends.
But maybe skiing and snowboarding doesn’t sound quite right for you — in which case, sledding sounds like a fantastic option! Not only is it a multi-person activity, so you can bring your friends or family along, but it is a simple and entertaining way to spend the winter days. Plus, there are various big hills within driving distance and smaller ones all over Cresskill for people to sled down.
For those who aren’t as interested in gearing up and staying active late into the night, there is a wide variety of movies to choose from, including Christmas-based ones such as The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Grinch, Home Alone, and Elf. Although there are winter movies not centered on Christmas, these are some of the most iconic and well-known films for the chilly season. Even those who celebrate different holidays or none at all can enjoy coming together for one of these cheerful films! These movies allow people to unwind, bury themselves in warm blankets, and drink some hot cocoa.
Additionally, this winter trademark pairs well with baking! 9th grader Yuvi Maggen avidly bakes for fun and for her family, so when winter comes around, she quickly whips out cookies, brownies, and more. Imagine baking warm, gooey chocolate cookies while a cozy winter movie plays in the background — it sounds like absolute perfection. Just this week she brought a delicious batch of thick, gooey chocolate chip cookies for her friends, saying, “I like baking a lot. It’s really relaxing and especially fun during the winter, when we can eat warm brownies or cookies while watching some sort of movie.”
Overall, it seems that the students of Cresskill have endless amounts of activities to try out during the winter! From skiing and snowboarding to baking cookies and watching Christmas movies, let’s all hope for a snowy winter this year for the sake of the fun that snow promises.
