With the 2025-2026 football season underway, the Cougars are shaking things up a bit. Following the retirement of former head coach Kevin Quinn, who dedicated himself to the team for over 10 years, the Cougars are thrilled to welcome new head coach Sal Aiello.
Having been interested in football from a young age, Aiello’s experience began in his sophomore year of college. “In some way, shape, or form, football was always a part of my life. But now I’m excited to share it with this impressive group of guys who reciprocate the same passion and love of the sport.” This will be Aiello’s tenth year coaching high school football.
Aiello is an asset to the team in multiple ways; he has experience in the co-op realm and various leadership positions. “When I was in Cliffside Park, they were a co-op, so having experience managing two schools is useful”. He went on to mention his previous role as a business owner of About to Drive driving school, stating, “Being in that type of leadership position helps, even though this is my first head coach position.”
When asked about his plans for the upcoming season, Aiello focused on the community and motivating players. Both on and off the field, he emphasized the importance of encouraging his players to continue working hard and building close relationships with the team. “I find that the teams that know the coach is there for them are the ones that fight a little harder.” He also hones in on wanting to establish a more spirited environment, specifically within the crowd. “The biggest thing I want to change is seeing all the kids at the games.” He goes on to explain, “I want the student section to be packed, and have more cohesiveness between the towns, with the Emerson kids coming here and us going there.”
The Cougars are excited for the incoming season and can’t wait to be under the Friday Night Lights alongside Coach Aiello.
