Loud, energetic, and noisy. That’s what baseball games are known to be. Commonly referred to as “America’s Favorite Pastime sport”, baseball has been ingrained in American culture, with most people knowing at least something about it. A “Subway Series” is a term referring to when two Major League Baseball teams from New York compete against one another, being the New York Yankees vs. the New York Mets, with their decades-long rivalry. This was the deal with the latest Subway Series round of games, as the Yankees took on the Mets in a 3-game round on Friday May 16, Saturday May 17, and Sunday May 18. While this article focuses particularly on the Sunday, May 18th game at Yankee stadium located in the Bronx, NY, opinions on most topics can be applicable to most if not all other stadiums.
First impressions
Walking into the stadium, I was in awe. As a person who has never been to a concert, sports game, or anything that occurs in a stadium, I wasn’t sure what to expect. All I knew was that it’s an enormous stadium with hundreds of thousands of seats. What I was yet to realize was the sheer size of everything. With 111 seating sections and over 40,000 seats, my mind was blown. I couldn’t grasp the concept of how there could be so many people in one place for one reason: baseball. Walking in, I gazed over the stadium taking in the view, with my jaw on the floor out of total wonder. Having felt the same feeling I did when going to the stadium for the first time, “I was surprised how many fans there were,” expressed Brandon Kim, (’27). Walking into the atmosphere for the first time, “It was exciting,” he said, “it was a great first experience.”
Price
With ticket prices ranging from the low $100’s in the furthest section available to $600 for the closer seats, a Yankee game certainly isn’t cheap! Yet, it depends on the team they are playing. Since they played the Mets, a long-time rival, it is understandable that there will be many people looking to purchase tickets, thus their price will be higher as it is a more sought after game. Unfortunately, entrance without a ticket is forbidden, thus you must have one. But, a different money grab that is avoidable at the stadium is the food and drink concessions. Selling over-the-top (huge) hot dogs, ice cream in Yankee helmets, cocktails, pizza, and anything you may want, the food selection at the stadium is sure to make you reach for your wallet! With prices being mostly reasonable, there’s definitely something waiting for you that wont be a bank breaker. But, consider one thing – the lines! With 40 thousand people at the stadium, the wait for your crispy tenders or sugary ice cream might take an inning or two!

Noise level

With the recent signing of Juan Soto to the Mets, Yankee fans felt betrayed by his leave, even though he was only with them for a season. Being offered $765 million by the Mets and $5 million less by the Yankees, rumor says he would rather have money than glory – as now whenever he is in the Yankee stadium he gets booed. The noise level can get quite loud, as half the stadium consists of loyal Yankee fans chanting insults and “F Juan Soto” (as of current trend) towards him to address their disappointment for his “money grabbing tendencies”. Even more, there are speakers all around the stadium playing music, announcing scores and current players at bat, as well as non-stop cheering. And worse of all, people yelling out to the players in anger as if they can hear them or care what they have to say. While the volume isn’t on the low level, it’s not ear-drum bursting either. “The noise level is loud”, expressed Brandon. “The fans are passionate”. While you will certainly have to speak up when talking and be prepared to repeat yourself once or twice, it’s definitely not something that can’t be handled for a few hours!
