Junior pitcher Luke Kopczynski has hit a milestone: he has struck out 100 batters since his freshman year. Luke hit this mark during a recent game against Park Ridge where he pitched an amazing performance to help lead Cresskill to a win. This is proof of Luke’s hard work and dedication to the sport he loves.
From his freshman year he has proved his pitching skills. ending his first season with a 3.17 ERA with 19 Strikeouts. In his sophomore season, he did even better, ending the season with a 3.08 ERA and 30 Strikeouts. He did all of this while also making an impact in the field and in the batter’s box. Luke competed as a player and proved his skills from the start.
In the offseason, Luke has also performed well for his club team, the Teels Ravens. He was featured often on Instagram and Twitter, with posts celebrating his performances at showcases and tournaments.
This season alone Luke has collected 68 strikeouts and led the team with the best ERA on the team, of 1.72. After starting the season slow with the bat, he started to figure it out and currently is batting over .300 with several extra base hits and RBI’s. Luke is a utility player and can always be counted on when needed to play another position he has played — short stop. He also occasionally plays on both second and third bases, making some flashy plays at the hot corner. Luke has even been optioned to DH and did his job as a hitter only.
Reaching this milestone as a pitcher is incredible and definitely feels great. After speaking to Luke he says, “it is so amazing to reach this goal and I still have a whole 1 more year and I will come back better than this year.”
This shows his confidence and might to believe that he can contribute even more than this year. On the field and on the field his comedy strikes the team and is contagious to the dugout. Luke has made all of Cresskill proud with him helping the team to wins when the ball is in his hand on the mound. More strikeouts to come!
