As the bell rang signaling the transition from Period 6 to 7, something unpleasant and undeniable unpleasant event caught the attention of students and teachers. A stink bomb was let loose. Now typically this type of prank is only heard of in movies, but there were no cameras present filming the action. The smell spread quickly throughout the halls of CHS near the C-wing bathrooms and classrooms, suffocating the students as they tried to make it to their next class. Although this is seemingly a harmless prank, the wretched smell made the whole building gag and cover their noses urgently.
The first victim of the bomb was Mr. Meier, the U.S History teacher, who claimed that he must’ve been one of the first to smell it. He recalled, “I had just finished teaching and was walking toward the media center [from my room, C15] when I smelled it.” His small walk, which should’ve been enjoyable and a way to stretch his legs, turned into an unforgettable one as the smell took up the whole hallway. As the nauseating smell overtook the halls, students tried to make sense of what they were smelling. English teacher Mrs. Cardenas said that initially she thought it was “eggs, “adding that it was almost “unbearable to walk through the hallways.”
Not only were the teachers displeased about the stench, but the students were as well. Many students whined about the smell and wondered why they had to suffer through it. Sophomore Aiden An was out in the hallways filming a project for his Video 1 class when the scent reached his nose. He complained that the lingering scent always hung, it was harder to focus and film. “Call me dramatic, but it was worse than being outside when the sky was orange back in 2023,” Aiden profoundly states. “At least I had a valid reason if I were to faint then, due to the smell of a stink bomb would’ve just been embarrassing.”
While still remaining unknown till this day, the person who came up with the idea of setting a stink bomb definitely left their mark at CHS. They may be hiding amongst other students as if nothing happened, but their prank left a place in CHS lore. With the smell fading, the memory still lasts with everyone, even a little trauma, there are still endless stories to be told. There’s no harm in wanting to have some fun and make a scene, until it makes the entire school run for the courtyard.
