During the week of May 5th, all students take AP Classes, which are courses in which high school students have opportunities to engage in college-level coursework in many different courses. These classes range from AP United States History, AP Chemistry, AP Psychology, and many more offered at Cresskill High. Students taking these courses were subject to AP Testing, which are end-of-the-year finals, in which all the information they learned over the school year was put to the test. These tests determine if a student receives college credit for the course. This can be a major benefit to students, as they can already enter college with credits for graduation.
Considering just how many students take AP courses, it was a very stressful week for many. With some students taking multiple AP courses, they had a lot to study for. The Communiqué interviewed two students currently taking multiple AP courses to gain insight into how the AP testing went.
Cresskill High School junior Isabella Disaverio (who is currently taking AP US History, AP English Language, and AP US Government) states, “I studied for about 4 hours each day I could, with a lot being for APUSH. Even though I believe my teachers prepped me properly for the tests, it was definitely still pretty stressful. APUSH was definitely the hardest, which I expected, but it was a little worse than I thought. I really hope I got at least a 4 on each, but we’ll see.”
From Isabella’s statement, it is very obvious that AP testing seems to be a pretty large stressor for students, with a massive amount of studying needed to feel secure taking the tests.
A second Cresskill High School junior, Alicia Sathananthan (who is currently taking AP Chemistry and AP US History) weighed in on this week’s AP testing as well, stating, “I was extremely stressed out for APs. I studied so much for APUSH, took practice tests, and looked over my notes over and over again. Even though both of my AP teachers did a great job preparing me for the tests, I still felt unprepared during the tests. I still think I passed, but I guess we’ll see.”
Overall, from both student’s recounts of AP testing, it seems that the tests were very stressful, taking up a lot of students’ time studying and preparing themselves for the tests. With scores coming out in the near future, all of CHS is wishing good luck to the AP students!
