Cresskill High School has a new gym teacher this year and students are already getting to know her. Mrs. Alvarez comes from a smaller private school, so CHS is very different for her. She was asked how she feels about working here, “I feel good about this new job. It’s definitely way more kids than I’m used to because I came from a much smaller private school. But I’m looking forward to starting this new chapter as a Cresskill Cougar!”

Mrs. Alvarez has been into sports her whole life. She played softball in high school and even Division 3 softball at Springfield College. “I was constantly involved with athletics which made me want to choose this career path,” she says. Her goal now is to help students enjoy phys. ed class.
Since she arrived, Mrs. Alvarez has already felt welcomed by both the staff and students. “The physical education department was very welcoming, and so were the kids,” she shares.
Outside of teaching she likes cooking and weight lifting and plans to be the middle school softball coach this spring.
