As Christmas is growing closer, the festive perks keep coming, a popular one of which is the release of Starbucks and Dunkin’s holiday menus. The most popular and similar drinks to compare in their festive lineup are Dunkin’s Cookie Butter Latte and Starbucks’s Sugar Cookie Latte. Both of these iced lattes have a sweet cookie taste to them, bringing out the cozy sweetness of the holiday season.
The Starbucks sugar cookie latte has a light and sweet taste to it with a matching cold sugar cookie foam and green and red sprinkles to top it off. The sugar cookie syrup sweetens the drink really well, but if you’re like me and like your coffee super sweet, then you still have the option of adding other syrup flavors, like plain vanilla, or you can even add their other seasonal flavors to customize it to your favorite taste.
Dunkin’s cookie butter latte has a warm taste to it, combining espresso and warm brown sugar with their cookie butter cold foam and cookie pieces sprinkled on top. This drink captures a flavor very unique, almost as if you were to dip a ginger bread cookie into smooth espresso. Along with the Starbucks latte, you can also add more syrups to sweeten the drink up, including their different festive flavors like peppermint and gingerbread to make the drink your own.
While both these drinks have their own different unique flavors, in my personal opinion, I prefer the sugar cookie latte over the cookie butter. It has a lighter flavor that’s sweet but not too sweet, much to the point where you can’t tell it’s coffee and the sugar cookie cold foam on top truly makes the drink perfect. This Starbucks latte brings a nostalgic flavor that captures the comfort of winter, it is exactly what I like in a seasonal drink.
When asking high schoolers which drink they prefer, there was a substantial leaning towards the Sugar Cookie Latte. Freshman Jasmine Ambartsumyan said, “I liked it more because the Dunkin one straight up tasted like almond and didn’t give me that Christmas feeling while the Starbucks one had a hint of vanilla and gave a more nostalgic taste,” highlighting how the Sugar Cookie Latte is perfect for the holiday season.
The Sugar Cookie Latte from Starbucks is the perfect drink to send your tastebuds into a winter wonderland. With the cozy vanilla and buttery cookie flavor, it matches any occasion. The drink has a sweet taste with the perfect sugar cookie cold foam topping it off making it the obvious pick for this winter season.
