Across social media and throughout pop culture, many agree that 2026 evokes the nostalgic feeling of 2016. From the rise of upbeat music and fashion trends along with internet memes, this year is bringing the 2016 optimism that is much needed in our daily lives.
In the past few years, everyone has been under a constant state of stress, ranging from things as mundane as the day-to-day pressure as a student to the lingering threat of global conflict. Now there has been a shift to enjoying every moment, bringing back creativity, and focusing more on the positive rather than the negative.
Part of what made 2016 so memorable was its carefree energy. Trends were bold, music was loud, and you couldn’t go anywhere without hearing classic Justin Bieber and Drake. While some students are younger, they are looking forward to living life older with the iconic 2016 vibe. “I feel excited, especially for the summer, and I wanna live that part of my life from a new perspective, older, more mature.” – Simone Berger. Students are looking forward to taking on the year with a positive attitude, reintroducing the carefree air of 2016 to 2026.
One word stood out when asking students how they feel about bringing back 2016. Some said, “I am really excited, and I think it’s very nostalgic and it brings back a sense of our childhood.” Brianna Depalo stated, “I think I really like it, and I think it should happen because it will bring back nostalgia.” Sivan Monhite Yahav agreed. Can you tell the students are most excited for the nostalgic feel of 2016 to return? Overall, after asking students their opinions, the majority support the 2016 comeback.
Beyond music and the fashion trends that 2016 brought, students are also excited for the mindset that is tagging along with the “2016 comeback.” Many say that they are excited for the memories and spending more time with friends, but also looking at school as a more fun part of the day, and not overthinking every moment.
